Lady Lion Volleyball

Your UA Fort Smith Lady Lions!
2007 Region II Champions
07 Lady Lion Volleyball

Since it's inception in the 1998-99 school year, the Lion volleyball program continues to make a name for itself as one of the top programs around. The Lions currently compete on the NJCAA Division I level as a member of the Bi-State conference and Region II. Their 7th place finish in the 2005 NJCAA National Tournament was the highest ever for a Region II team. In addition to representing Region II in the NJCAA National Tournament five of the past six years (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007), the Lion volleyball team was also named as an NJCAA Academic All-American Team for seven years in a row!

The volleyball program will continue as a member of the NJCAA through the 2008-2009 school year. Beginning in the fall of 2009, the program will make the move to NCAA Division II.

Student-athletes who participate in volleyball may receive full and partial scholarships.

You can contact the volleyball staff at 479-788-7603 or email Jane Sargent.

Lady Lions Earn All-Academic HonorsTue, Apr 8, 2008
FORT SMITH, Ark. – The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith volleyball team was recently recognized as one of the NJCAA Fall Academic Teams of the Year.

The Lady Lions compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.21 and were the only Bi-State Conference team to earn the honor. Teams must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 to be considered for the honor.

It is the eighth time the Lady Lions have earned the distinction in the 10-year history of the program.

“I give credit to our players for understanding the importance of a college education and making the most of it,” UA Fort Smith coach Jane Sargent said. “We take great pride in the fact that not only do we do well on the court but we also do well in the classroom. We stand committed to excellence in everything we do.”

This past season, the Lady Lions won their sixth-consecutive Bi-State Conference championship and fifth overall Region II tournament championship. UA Fort Smith, which finished 39-7, also made its fifth appearance in the national tournament, finishing eighth overall.
