Students Showcase Skills at Fall Unit Expo

More than 55 students in the College of Education at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith showcased lessons they have used in area classrooms during the annual Unit Expo Day Nov. 19.
On display were projects education students created for pre-kindergarten through fourth grade classes this fall as part of their field experiences at various schools. The variety of project topics included the five senses, food groups, transportation, history, reading, biology and geography utilizing a range of subjects, such as Dr. Seuss, the ocean, pumpkins and fall leaves.
UA Fort Smith students participating in Unit Expo Day are enrolled in Integrated Curriculum classes taught by Dr. Dana Garner of Muldrow and Deebe Milford of Alma. The lessons were implemented in the students’ practicum classes taught by Milford and Ginger Osburn of Sallisaw.
Each unit display is a detailed curriculum map that adheres to both Arkansas and Oklahoma teaching standards. Displays include examples of the children’s learning in relation to the goals, along with the hands-on materials created to promote the learning.
