The awards ceremony for University of Arkansas - Fort Smith practical nursing students who are candidates for graduation at the end of the second summer term will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Weidman Center, room 133 of the Pendergraft Health Sciences Center at UA Fort Smith.
Dr. Carolyn Mosley of Fort Smith, dean of the College of Health Sciences, will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Mosley came to UA Fort Smith in June 2006 to serve as associate dean and director of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. She then served as interim dean of the College of Health Sciences from fall 2006 through June 2007, when she was named dean.
Dr. Mosley has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the recent notification that she will be inducted in October as a Fellow in the National League for Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education. Fellows in the NLN Academy of Nursing Education are individuals who have made enduring and substantial contributions to nursing education as teachers, mentors, scholars, public policy advocates, practice partners and administrators.
Mosley was previously employed by the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing in New Orleans, where she was associate dean of the school of nursing and health sciences. She has also worked for the Medical Center of Louisiana, University Hospital, Tulane Medical Center Hospital, the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Pontchartrain Mental Health Center, all in New Orleans.
Also participating in the ceremony is Dr. Barbara Lange of Fort Smith, executive director of UA Fort Smith’s three nursing programs in the College of Health Sciences, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, the Associate Degree Nursing program and the Practical Nursing program. Dr. Lange will give the welcome. Nursing faculty participating in the ceremony include Peggy Kelly of Fort Smith and Sharon Smith of Greenwood.
