She has volunteered her time for numerous university programs, including the scholar-preceptor program, the Start-Trek program, the CHOICES program, and the middle school mathematics teachers’ workshop.

She has also served on committees in faculty development, assessment and professional development. She is faculty sponsor for College Republicans, speaks to groups of returning adult students and helps with new student orientation. She will serve as a Cub Camp namesake in summer 2006. Under her guidance, students in her statistics classes design, conduct and evaluate large-scale campus surveys that benefit the students and the university as a whole.

Warner, a Fort Smith native, is a Phi Beta Kappa who earned her associate degree from Westark College and her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She attended Westark from 1987 to 1990 and received the Public Awareness Committee Award for the Division of Social Sciences and the Outstanding Student of the Year Award in Spanish. She was the Fulbright College Senior Scholar at UA Fayetteville. She is a past recipient of the Luella Krehbiel Teaching Excellence Award and has been named to Who’s Who Among American Teachers for six years.

Warner also teaches mathematics for the Veteran’s Upward Bound program at the Air National Guard in Fort Smith. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Fort Smith and devotes time working with families affected by alcohol addiction.

Whirlpool Corp. provides special funding to support recognition of a “master teacher” at UA Fort Smith. As recipient of the Whirlpool Master Teacher Award, Warner will attend the Great Teachers Seminar in Hawaii in August.

Todd Watson

Dr. C. Todd Watson, associate professor of chemistry, teaches inorganic chemistry and analytical chemistry, as well as other upper- and lower-level chemistry courses. Watson is also faculty adviser for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and the bachelor’s degree in chemistry with teacher licensure.

Watson has served on the Curriculum Committee and currently serves on the Faculty Senate. He is also chair of the Arkansas State Board of Private Career Education.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Miami University and his doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of Arizona.

Watson received his award in Category I of the Lucille Speakman Excellence Awards, given annually to recognize the outstanding contributions full-time faculty make to UA Fort Smith. Recipients of the award receive $1,000 bonuses and $2,000 equipment allocations for their departments. The award is named for Lucille Speakman, a longtime teacher, administrator and Board of Trustees member.

Warner and Watson will be recognized during commencement exercises at UA Fort Smith. In addition to faculty awards, separate categories recognize the work of non-teaching professionals. Those awards are scheduled for later announcement.
