Don't Forget "Remember Me"

Don't Forget "Remember Me" (Posted: October 7, 2009)     (Printable Version)

Season of Entertainment 29 continues Nov. 3 with the collaborative performance of “Remember Me,” featuring Parsons Dance and the lead vocalists of East Village Opera Company.

The 7:30 p.m. show will take place in the Arkansas Best Corp. Performing Arts Center of the Fort Smith Convention Center, 55 S. 7th St. Admission is by Season 29 season ticket or individual tickets are $30 and $27.

“Remember Me” combines contemporary dance, love and recorded rock music and a multimedia design including enriched digital lighting, special effects and projections to tell the story of a classic love triangle with a modern twist.

The story concerns Gintus whose love interest Maria prefers his brother Artemis. Driven by rage and jealousy, Gintus drags Maria into a slide-projected cloister where she is kept in a gilded cage. “Remember Me” is a high-energy mix of contemporary American dance, opera and rock music, combining the athleticism of Parsons Dance with the exhilarating live vocal performances of East Village.

“This performance is unlike anything we’ve had here before,” said Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor for campus and community events. “We’ve had musicals and we’ve had dance performances but we’ve never had one event that combines such a high level of talent as ‘Remember Me.’”

Parsons Dance had toured an average of 32 weeks per year since 1985, reaching millions of audience members in more than 235 cities, 30 countries, six continents. The company is comprised of 10 full-time dancers and maintains a repertory of more than 70 works choreographed by David Parsons, 20 of which feature originally commissioned scores by leading composers and musicians.

East Village Opera Company resets some of opera’s most famous tunes into dynamic 21st-century arrangements that borrow from pop, rock and new age music to convey the many emotions evoked in “Remember Me.” Begun in 2004, East Village Opera Company has toured the world performing re-imaginings of classic opera songs with a touch of rock, R&B and pop.

UA Fort Smith packages national touring productions with UA Fort Smith concerts and productions into the Season of Entertainment schedule each year. “Remember Me” is one of seven national touring productions on this year's Season of Entertainment slate. There are also 10 UA Fort Smith student productions and concerts scheduled as part of Season 29.
