Testing Center Offers GRE Subject Tests (Posted: July 28, 2010)     (Printable Version)

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Subject Tests will now be offered in the Testing Center at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.

GRE Subject Tests are taken by graduate school applicants, and GRE scores are used by admission or fellowship panels to supplement undergraduate records, letters of recommendation and other qualifications for graduate study, according to Nichelle Christian, coordinator of testing at UA Fort Smith.

“I am pleased that Educational Testing Service has approved this institution as a GRE test site,” said Christian. “It is wonderful that students will have the option to take the GRE Subject Tests at this campus.”

The GRE Subject Tests are offered in eight specified areas — Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology; Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Literature in English; Mathematics; Physics; and Psychology.

“GRE Subject Tests allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and distinguish themselves among their peers when applying to graduate school,” said Christian.

The tests will be administered in paper/pencil format twice a year at UA Fort Smith. The computer-based version of the exam is offered at prometric test sites.

The first test administration at UA Fort Smith is scheduled on Oct. 9, with another one on April 9, 2011.

Other tests offered through UA Fort Smith’s Testing Center include ACT Residual Test, PRAXIS, College Level Examination Program (CLEP), National League for Nursing (PAX) exam, COMPASS, Psychological Services Bureau (PSB), and ParaPro assessments.

The Testing Center is located on the second floor of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. For more information, contact Christian at 479-788-7662.
