Logo Shows Community Pride

Logo Shows Community Pride (Posted: December 13, 2001)     (Printable Version)

Westark College officially merges into the University of Arkansas System as the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith on Jan. 1, 2002, and with that new name comes a new logo.

The new logo, distributed recently to news media personnel in the area, includes a portion of the 108-foot tower that brings immediate recognition as part of the Fort Smith campus. There are accepted variations of the logo, but all emphasize the Fort Smith location of the institution.

The institution has also developed a style and usage guide for the logo and for the college name. For first reference in written documents, the preferred style uses the name "University of Arkansas - Fort Smith," with spaces before and after the hyphen. Correct verbal communication will be "University of Arkansas Fort Smith" on first reference. Second reference in written or verbal communication is to be "UA Fort Smith."

Only legal documents will use the word "at" as part of the title. The institution does not plan to use "UAFS" in written or verbal communication, preferring to emphasize the words "Fort Smith" to show community pride.
