UA Fort Smith Brings Broadway to Town

UA Fort Smith Brings Broadway to Town (Posted: October 21, 2008)     (Printable Version)

Celebrate “101 Years of Broadway” Nov. 15 at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. Neil Berg’s Broadway review includes some of the greatest songs from the most popular Broadway musicals of the past century.

Berg’s newest production is a follow-up to last year’s “100 Years of Broadway” and includes a cast of five stars reprising roles they originally held on Broadway accompanied by an all-star New York band. The review features brilliantly revived arrangements of Broadway classics mixed with thrilling songs from some of the newest hit shows.

“This show was specifically requested by patrons who saw the first show,” said Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor for campus and community events, of the Oct. 2006 performance at UA Fort Smith. “This follow-up promises to be just as entertaining as the original, which was a real favorite with our Season of Entertainment patrons.”

A theatrical montage, “101 Years of Broadway” recreates the biggest moments from some of the finest shows of the century, such as “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables,” “Evita,” “CATS,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”

The cast for this performance will include Danny Zolli, whose previous credits include Che in “Evita,” Judas Iscariot in “Jesus Christ Superstar” and the title role in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Rita Harvey, who has played Christine in “The Phantom of the Opera” and Hodel in “Fiddler on the Roof”; Steve Blanchard, an eight-year veteran of “Beauty and the Beast”; and Rob Evan, star of the original Broadway cast of “Jekyll and Hyde.”

Relive some of Broadway’s best offerings at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Arkansas Best Corp. Performing Arts Center. Admission is available by Season 28 ticket or by individual tickets, which are $27, $30 and $35.

Tickets are available online at www.uafortsmith.edu or by calling 788-7300.
