99 Inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda

99 Inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda (Posted: April 15, 2008)     (Printable Version)

A total of 99 University of Arkansas - Fort Smith students have been inducted into the Upsilon Alpha Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society for adult students who achieve academic excellence.

This was the fourth annual induction ceremony on the UA Fort Smith campus for Alpha Sigma Lambda. The honor society was founded in 1945 specifically to honor those motivated and dedicated adult students who accomplish academic excellence while managing competing responsibilities of home and work.

Students eligible for membership must be at least 25 years of age, have a minimum grade point average of at least 3.5, rank in the highest 10 percent of their class, and have 24 graded credits, with 12 hours of coursework in the liberal arts.

Inductees include:

Alma: LaDonna Allan, Kacey Chronister, Matthew Cupp, Tara Cupp, Jennifer Nooner, James Romine and John Watts.

Barling: Kimberly Gant, Virginia Larson and Drema Celeste Moon.

Booneville: Christopher Cooper and Timothy Newton.

Cameron: Joseph Chasteen and Kevin Edwards.

Charleston: Elizabeth Hice.

Speakers for the ceremony were Mark Horn, vice chancellor for finance and administration, and Dr. Arleene Breaux, vice chancellor for university relations. The induction ceremony was conducted by Dr. Kimberly Downing, assistant professor of English; Lawanna Herrell, current ASL president; Derek Robbins, 2007 inductee; Susan Wallace, an honorary member; Dr. Carol Warner, chapter faculty sponsor; and Vicki White, 2007 ASL president.

Graduating members of the society will wear gold and burgundy honor cords during the May commencement exercises.
