Nancy Mathis

Nancy Mathis - Voice

Nancy Mathis Nancy Mathis recently moved back to the U.S. after a lengthy stay in England. She has had a varied career in music, ranging from Opera, Oratorio and recital work to teaching voice, clarinet and piano. Born and raised in Camden, AR, she received her undergraduate degree from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, and Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland. She did postgraduate work at the Peabody Conservatory and won the Sylvia Green prize for singing. While in the Washington area she sang with the Washington DC, Baltimore and Wolf Trap Opera companies. In 16 years in the UK she performed some 45 operatic roles ? her favourites being Euridice (both Gluck?s and Offenbach?s) and all three of ladies? parts in Cosi Fan Tutte (but not at the same time). After deciding to move back to the US, her final performances in London were to repeat her previous roles of both Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) - both by Mozart. Her concert debut after returning to Arkansas was as soloist in the inaugural performance of the UofA Fayetteville Master Chorale in the Walton Arts Centre. She now lives in Winslow, between Fort Smith and Fayetteville.
