Dr. Stephen Husarik - Music History
Stephen Husarik is a full professor of Humanities, Head Carillonneur and teaches music history in the College of Arts and Sciences. He attended the School of the Art Institute (Chicago), the University of Illinois (Urbana) and the University of Iowa (Iowa City)—where he received a Ph.D. in music literature (83). He was a teaching assistant at all three institutions. Husarik studied musicology with Nicholas Temperley/Albert Luper and piano with Soulima Stravinsky. He edited American keyboard Artists, Who’s Who in the Humanities and published articles in Clavier, NAHE Journal, Classical Magazine, Journal of American Liszt Society, International Biographical Dictionary, American Music, CIPEM, Sonneck Society Newsletter, NAHE Newsletter (editor, 92) and Segue. Husarik received an “Excellence in Teaching” award from the Arkansas Distance Learning Association (02-03), the “Whirlpool Master Teacher Award” from Westark College (00), and several NEH “College Teacher Fellowships” to New York University/Germany (94) and Harvard University (89).
