Dr. Elizabeth Momand

A native Mississippian, lyric soprano Dr. Elizabeth Momand received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from Mississippi College where she was an active performer of chamber and solo recital music. Upon completion of her Master's degree, Dr. Momand was offered a teaching position at the Power Academic and Performing Arts Complex (APAC) in Jackson, Mississippi, as Director of Vocal Studies. During her seven years at APAC, and subsequent years of public school teaching, Dr. Momand built strong vocal departments while emphasizing the basics of vocal development and stage performance.

Dr. Momand's interests in music continue into the academic field. She has been awarded for her academic work by receiving several scholarships and honors. In 1984, she was awarded a scholarship to the University of Mainz in Germany for a year of study. While in Germany, she studied with the well-respected soprano Kathleen Striegler of the Darmstadt Opera. In 1989, she was awarded the International Visitors Center of Mississippi scholarship for travel and study in former East Germany. During the summer of 1994, Dr. Momand spent three months studying and traveling in India under the auspies of a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship.

Dr. Momand completed the Doctorate of Music Arts in Vocal Performance at the University of Texas at Austin. She continues to be an active performer of oratorio, recital, and chamber music. Her students have been state, regional, and national winners of competitions and scholarships.
