Christine Taylor - Flute
Christine Taylor earned degrees in Flute Performance from The Ohio State University and the University of Minnesota. At the University of Minnesota she was a Berneking Scholar and a musicology teaching assistant. Throughout her studies in Minnesota and at OSU, Christine occupied seats as principal flutist in both the orchestra and band. While at OSU she was a finalist for the Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and in 2005 she was first alternate for the National Flute Association Master Class Competition. Christine enjoys performing new works and has given frequent premieres both in Ohio and Minnesota. Recent performances have included premieres at the SPARK Festival of Electro-Acoustic Music and the Central European Dance Exchange, both at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis, and at the Zeitgeist Studio as part of the American Composer=s Forum >Tuesday Salon= series. In 2005-2006 her flute and percussion duo commissioned a program of new works, one of which was selected for performance at the annual conference of SEAMUS in Portland, OR.
Christine has been a freelance musician in both Ohio and Minnesota and has taught privately in both states. She has participated in a diverse range of activities, from being the first President of the Central Ohio Flute Association at OSU, where she played a central role in organizing the annual festival, to teaching and coaching at The OSU High School Flute Workshop, to judging the 2006 Laudie Porter Competition of the Upper Midwest Flute Association. Christine has recently joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas-Ft. Smith and the new Academy for the Arts, and is looking forward to sharing her joy of music with her students and the community.
Christine's primary teachers have been Immanuel Davis and Katherine Borst Jones. Other influences include Julia Bogorad-Kogan and Keith Underwood, and the many flutists she has performed for at master classes across the country, including Julius Baker, William Bennett, Mary Stolper, Patricia Spencer, Bradley Garner, Nobataku Shimizu, Christina Jennings, Kyril Magg, Randy Bowman, and Michael Lynn. She also has an interest in the Alexander Technique and has studied with Lisa First, William Conable, Brian McCullough, and Pedro de Alcantara.
