UA Fort Smith Choral Ensembles

Choral singing has always held an important place at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. The Choral Music Department is proud of the fact that it provides student opportunities for artistic excellence, academic challenge, and the overall joy of singing.

All choral ensembles are open by audition to any university student, and generous scholarships are available. For more information, contact Elizabeth Momand, Associate Professor of Voice.

  • The UA Fort Smith Chorale (MTWR 1:00-1:50), the premiere choral ensemble of the university, is an auditioned group of 60 singers that performs a wide variety of outstanding choral literature from the Renaissance period to the present. In addition to 3 major on-campus performances each school year, this ensemble also presents concerts at various off-campus locations.

  • The Women's Chorus (TR 2:00-2:50) is an auditioned group of 40-60 women's voices that pursues musical excellence with a repertoire that includes a range of music from Bach to Broadway. They are featured on 3 major on-campus concerts each year. The Women's Chorus is directed by Dr. Roxane LaCombe, Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice.

  • UA Ft. Smith Vocal Jazz (TR 12:00-1:00) is an auditioned group of 8 singers that has the distinction of being the only Arkansas university ensemble devoted entirely to the performance of vocal jazz. They have recently performed at the MidAmerica Jazz Festival in Carnegie Hall, the Kansas City Kansas Community College Jazz Festival, and appeared in concert with noted jazz artist Ron Wilkins. In 2003-2004 UA Ft. Smith Vocal Jazz will appear at the 14th Annual Millikin Vocal Jazz Festival (Decatur, IL) and at the North Texas Jazz Festival (Addison, TX). The Voacal Jazz is directed by Mr. Don Bailey, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies.
