Instrumental Music
Brass Instruments
Scales and Technique1. Demonstrate all major scales (by memory), two octaves where possible.
2. Demonstrate a chromatic scale, full range of your instrument.
3. Demonstrate legato and staccato styles.
4. Demonstrate single, double, and triple tonguing on instrument.
Solo or Etude
1. Perform an etude or technical study showing technical proficiency on your instrument.
2. Perform a solo work from standard repertoire (grade 3-5).
3. Students may choose to perform a solo and an etude.
Sight-reading
1. Demonstrate the ability to read at sight on your instrument.
Woodwind Instruments

Percussion Instruments
Students will be expected to audition on snare drum, timpani, and keyboard percussionSnare Drum
1. Demonstrate the 40 P.A.S. Rudiments (Rolls, Diddles, Flams, etc) in and open-closed-open (slow-fast-slow) fashion and at various dynamic levels.
2. Perform a snare drum solo piece (Rudimental or Concert) or etude (grade 3-5).
Timpani
1. Demonstrate the ability to tune the timpani to assigned pitches.
2. Demonstrate the ability to match and recognize pitches.%BR 3. Perform a solo work or etude from standard repertoire (grade 3-5).
Keyboard Mallets
1. Demonstrate all major scales (by memory), two octaves ascending and descending.
2. Perform a chromatic scale (at least two octaves ascending and descending).
3. Perform a mallet solo piece or etude from standard repertoire (grade 3-5).
Sight-reading
1. Demonstrate the ability to read at sight on the above instruments.
Vocal Music
Students should prepare two songs of contrasting style, one preferably in a foreign language (Italian, German, French, or Spanish art song). At least one of the songs should be memorized. A selection from musical theatre is acceptable. Voice auditions must be accompanied. UA Fort Smith can provide an accompanist if arrangements are made prior to the audition day. Following the presentation of solo material, the candidate will be asked to demonstrate basic pitch and rhythmic sight-reading ability.

Two memorized pieces of contrasting style
All Major Scales four octaves
All Major and Minor Arpeggios in root position two octaves
