Academy of the Arts

The Academy of the Arts, a division of Lifelong Learning at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, offers private and class instruction in the performing arts. The Academy teaches students and adults of all ages and skill levels in the Fort Smith and surrounding areas. Technology Summer Camps

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith and the College of Applied Science and Technology will again offer Camp E! magination, a non-traditional career exploration opportunity for teens in various areas of technology.

June 16-20, Mon-Fri, 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. “Whodunit?” (Criminal Justice)
Seize and search for evidence using real and virtual clues. Criminal justice enthusiasts will unravel a mystery with the help of the UA Fort Smith-Criminal Justice Department’s faculty and students. Present your case to a real judge! Limited to 25 students entering grades 7- 12. Fee: $30

July 7-11, Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. - noon “Web Design” (Information Technology)
Two days of Adobe Photoshop and then tackle HTML coding using notepad and other programs to create your own website! Perfect for 15 aspiring web designers entering grades 9-12. Fee: $30.00

Tues, July 22 & Wed, July 23, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. “Bare Bones Computer Surgery” (Electronics)
An introduction to electronics where students will learn computer hardware basics with hands-on activities ending with a working PC. Limited to 24 students entering grades 7-12! Fee: $25.00 includes lunch.

Tues, July 29, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. “Robotics” (Electronics)
Learn the basics of robotic sensing and locomotion principles, test motor skills, as you control the ROBOTIC ARM TRAINER. Students will command this unit with it's five-switch, wired controller with corresponding lights to grab, release, lift, lower, rotate wrist and pilot sideways 350 degrees while having fun! We have space for 12 teens entering grades 7-12! Fee: $15.00 includes lunch.

Health Profession Camps

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith and the College of Health Sciences will offer H.O.T.T. (Health Occupations for Today and Tomorrow) Skills Camp, a non-traditional career exploration opportunity for young men entering grades 9-12. H.O.T.T. Skills Camp is scheduled for Monday-Thursday, June 16-19, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Each day will feature a different hands-on program for students. The fee for each day is $15.00 or choose all four days for $50. Instructional materials and souvenir scrub included.

Monday, June 16 - (Surgical Technology)

Enter behind the scenes of a mock operating room and assist with an appendectomy procedure.

Tuesday, June 17 - (Nursing)

Determine a diagnosis and perform typical medical procedures. Apply what you learn in a fun and realistic simulation exercise with “Sim Man”, one of the school's high fidelity simulators.

Wednesday, June 18 - (Dental Hygiene)

Practice with dental instruments, generate x-rays on a typodont, produce impressions of teeth and pour up models. Wear the official protective gear and get hands on as a dental hygienist, while gaining knowledge of how to care for your own teeth.

Thursday, June 19 - (Radiography)

Perform various scientific experiments including magnetism, electricity, electrostatics and optics relating to the basics of the imaging sciences.

Camp CEO

The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith and the College of Applied Science and Technology along with the Girl Scout Council of Mount Magazine Area will host the 2nd Annual "Camp CEO for Leadership."

Dates are Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29, 2008. This camp for girls in grades 7-12 is designed to explore career opportunities in technology. Camp CEO will highlight CADD/GIS/GPS, Automotive Technology, Information Technology and Engineering. Click here to download the Camp CEO Registration Form.

Athletic Summer Camps

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Athletic Department offers summer camps in basketball, baseball and volleyball for children in grades K-12. All camps are held in the month of June. Exact dates and times will be available Spring 2008. Registration forms, when available, can be obtained by calling the athletic department at 479-788-7590 or by selecting the appropriate sport on the UA Fort Smith Athletics website at www.uafortsmith.edu/Athletics.

Bridging Generations Summer Camp

Grandparents, Parents—would you like to attend summer camp with your grandchildren or children? The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will offer its first Bridging Generations program twice during the summer: June 2-5 and July 7-10. A four-day educational experience on the UA Fort Smith campus, Bridging Generations is a program designed for adults and youth (ages 3-15) to spend time together while attending classes together and sharing hands-on learning activities. The cost is $150 for both the child and the adult. Discounts are available for families with more than one child.

  • Session 3, July 7-10, 9-11 a.m.
