Banner Competition

IMPORTANT DATES:
Banners must be turned in by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008 to the Freshman Center/Student Activities Office. The Homecoming Committee will display the banners beginning Monday, February 25, 2008. Judging for the banners will take place on Monday, February 25, 2008. Results will be posted on LionsLink announcements on Monday, February 25, 2008.

DESCRIPTION:
Another great way to show off your Lion pride! The spirit of Homecoming Week is displayed in banners. Banners will be used to help promote Homecoming, student organizations, and athletics on campus. This competition is open to all recognized student organizations, athletic groups, and cheerleaders. Your group’s name should be visible on these banners. If you choose, you may use your own supplies or supplies in the Student Activities workroom.

RULES AND GUIDELINES:

  • All banners must be turned in by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008 to the Freshman Center/Student Activities Office. The judging will take place on Monday, February 25, 2008.
  • Banners must be completed when organizations submit them to the Homecoming Committee. (Any incorrect or erroneous signs will not be displayed and the organization will be disqualified.) The Homecoming Committee will hang up the banners for the organization.
  • To create the banner, organizations may use the Student Activities banner paper or a queen- or king-sized sheet. The organization will need to provide its own sheet if they choose to use a bed sheet.
  • Profanity or obscenities on the banner will result in disqualification, as determined by the Homecoming Director and Advisor.
  • Switching of banners during the week will not be allowed; your approved banner will be the banner judged and put up for view.
  • Any banners not complying with the above rules will be disqualified.
  • Banners will be moved to the Stubblefield Center on Thursday, February 28, 2008 for the Homecoming game.
  • The only three mandated design components are: 1) Name of the organization must be clearly seen and spelled out on the banner, and incorporate the Homecoming theme, “Can You Handle Our Wild Side” 2) “Homecoming 2008” must appear somewhere on the banner, 3) date/time/location of the game must be put on the banner which is February 28, 2008/Women play at 6:00 p.m. Men play at 8:00 p.m. / Stubblefield Center.
  • If your group would like their banner back after Thursday, February 28, 2008, please indicate on the registration form by writing “WOULD LIKE TO KEEP BANNER”. Banners that are not requested to be kept will be thrown away after Royalty Night.
  • Banners will be available for pick up in the Freshman Center/Student Activities Office on Monday, March 3, 2008. Please make arrangements to have someone come and pick up your banner on this day.

SCORING:
JUDGING BASED UPON

  • “Spirit” of the banner - 40 points
  • Overall appearance- 35 points
  • Originality- 25 points
  • Teams will be awarded 50 points for 1st place, 30 points for 2nd place, and 20 points for 3rd place all teams that are not in the top three will receive 10 participation points in regards to the overall scoring process (see PRIZE ALLOCATIONS).

DEDUCTIONS:

  • Disqualification-Failure to cooperate with the policies and procedures.
  • 10 - point deduction-Group fails to deliver banner by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2008.
