Library of Congress Subject Headings

The Library of Congress Subject Headings, or LC Subject Headings are standardized lists of subject headings that are used to catalog or describe subject content of books and media. The Boreham Library uses LC Subject Headings in its online catalog. Searching the online catalog with subject headings is an efficient way of searching for books and media.


Abbreviations:

 BT — Broad Term - Indicates Subject Headings that are broader or more inclusive.

 NT — Narrower Term - Indicates Subject Headings that are more specific.

 RT — Related Term - Indicates Subject Headings that are related or similar.

 Use — Reference from a Subject Heading that is not USED to one that is.

 UF — Reference to a Subject Heading that is USED FOR a term that is recognized.

 SA — See Also - This could refer to other subject terms or the term used as a subdivision of another topic.
