Azahares: una publicación literaria en español de la Universidad de Arkansas en Fort Smith
Azahares is UA Fort Smith's premier Spanish-language literary journal, which provides students with a forum for creative expression in the Spanish-language. The azahar, or orange blossom, is a flower of special meaning. Representative of new life and purity, azahares form part of the iconic tradition of the Spanish-speaking world, embodying a freshness of spirit and perspective captured with this publication.
Although Azahares predominantly highlights student work, submissions are open to all members of UA Fort Smith — students, faculty or staff — as well as to the greater Fort Smith area and beyond.
Azahares 2009: Call for Submissions
All written submissions must be primarily in Spanish; all artwork and photography must reflect the culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Submission Deadline: Friday, December 5th, 2008General Submission Requirements and Guidelines
- Each author or artist may submit up to three of his or her works for publication.
- Each author or artist must also submit a 60-word biography in Spanish, written in the 3rd-person point of view, saved as a Word document.
- All submissions must be in electronic form, either a) emailed to Azahares Submissions (azahares@uafortsmith.edu) with AZAHARES 2009 as the Subject Line, or b) burned on a cd and mailed directly (see address below). Your email/mailed package must include:
- completed Submission Form (see link below to download form)
- 60-word biography
- written or visual submission(s) included as Attachment(s) to the email

- The selection committee will only review submissions which are in accordance with all submission requirements and guidelines.
Blind-Submissions Process of Submission Selection
The editors of Azahares use a blind-submissions process for the selection of all works; therefore, no submission should have the author's/artist's names on it. Works are identified by the Submission Form, where work title(s) and contact information are listed along with the artist or author's name. Please complete the * Submission Form 2009 and include it as an Attachment on your submission email. Anticipated publication date for Azahares is Spring 2009.Contact Information
