A Message From Dr. Carolyn Mosley, Dean - College of Health Sciences

Welcome to the College of Health Sciences at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. The College of Health Sciences offers an academic community that is passionate about student learning and knowledgeable about the processes that are in place to ensure learning outcomes. Faculty examine and persistently discuss which styles, strategies, experiences, and tasks are best for improving learning in a diversity of students. Students are encouraged to share the responsibility for and demand active engagement in their own learning from the moment they step onto the campus. Students have the opportunity to interact closely with faculty in programs that are challenging and exciting and offer many career opportunities. Prepared to meet current and future healthcare demands in today's challenging healthcare system, students graduate with the knowledge and skills needed to make it today and grow into new opportunities tomorrow.

Programs

The College of Health Sciences has a rich history of offering quality, innovative programs in an atmosphere that is learner-centered and future-oriented. Degree programs share a common goal of integrating theory and technology in the classroom, laboratory and clinical setting. All degree programs provide a foundation in general education so graduates are informed about current and future trends in healthcare and can respond to challenges in the workplace. The College promotes educational opportunities for career advancement, employment mobility, and lifelong learning. College of Health Sciences programs meet the health care needs of the community while preparing students for rewarding careers in registered and practical nursing, surgical technology, dental hygiene, and radiologic technology. Through the College of Health Sciences, students can complete a baccalaureate degree in nursing or imaging sciences with a track in ultrasound and/or management. Associate of applied science degree programs are available in dental hygiene, nursing, radiography, respiratory care, and surgical technology. A certificate program is available in practical nursing.

Facility

The Pendergraft Health Sciences Center at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith provides students with a high-tech, high-touch environment in which healthcare professionals acquire critical thinking and informatics skills. The Health Sciences Center is the pride of Fort Smith and is arguably the freshest and best equipped in the state of Arkansas. Designed with students in mind, it has all the resources it takes to make their educational experience successful. The College boasts of high fidelity patient simulators, multiple learning laboratories, an intensive care suite, birthing room, patient room and nursing stations, 15 dental operatories, surgical, radiologic and ultrasound suites with state of the art equipment.
