Ideas for Giving

Ideas for Giving

  • UA Fort Smith welcomes all gifts, large or small.

  • Whatever your interests, whatever your capacity, we welcome your support.

Here are some of the ways that people give to the university:

Cash Gifts The simplest method of giving, and the one most people use, is to make a contribution by personal check.

Please make your check payable to "UA Fort Smith Foundation, Inc." and mail it to:
  UA Fort Smith Foundation, Inc.
  P.O. Box 3649
  Fort Smith, AR 72913

Credit Card  Gifts You may make a credit card gift by phone by calling the foundation office at 479-788-7029 or 1-800-532-9094. The foundation accepts both MasterCard and Visa.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities When people give long-term appreciated securities, not only do they receive an income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of their securities, but they also avoid capital gain taxes on any increase in value. We will be happy to provide you or your broker with the information necessary to transfer gifts of securities to the UA Fort Smith Foundation. Please send us an email or call 479-788-7029 to request transfer information.

Wills and Living Trusts A provision in a will or living trust allows people to make a substantial contribution without diminishing the assets available to them during their lifetime. Since bequests and living trust allocations are deductible from one’s taxable estate, significant estate tax savings are possible. Please send us an email or call Linda Myers at 479-788-7026 to receive more information about this type of gift.

Gifts of Real
and Personal Property
A residence or other real property may be given as an outright gift, or individuals may prefer to give their home and retain the right to occupy the property for life while still receiving a tax deduction. Personal property such as paintings, library books, or musical instruments can also make useful gifts. Please send us an email or call Linda Myers at 479-788-7026 to receive more information about this type of gift.

Charitable Gift Annuities In exchange for a gift of money or securities, UA Fort Smith will pay the donor or a loved one a fixed amount annually for the rest of his or her life. A large portion of the income is tax free, and donors also receive a charitable deduction for part of their gift. Please send us an email or call Linda Myers at 479-788-7026 to receive more information about this type of gift.

Charitable Remainder Trusts Donors can use an irrevocable trust to provide themselves or a loved one with a fixed annual income or an income that varies with the amount of the trust. Part of the trust qualifies for an income tax deduction. At the death of the last income beneficiary, the corpus of the trust is distributed to the university. Please send us an email or call Linda Myers at 479-788-7026 to receive more information about this type of gift.

Charitable Lead Trusts Donors can support UA Fort Smith for a term of years or for the life of an individual by creating a charitable lead trust. Income will be paid to the university each year for a specific number of years. When the trust terminates, the assets in the trust revert to the donor or pass to individuals the donor wishes to benefit, often with significant tax savings. Please send us an email or call Linda Myers at 479-788-7026 to receive more information about this type of gift.

Life Insurance When an individual gives a life insurance policy to the university, the present cash surrender value of the policy is deductible as a charitable contribution. If the individual continues to pay the premiums after making the gift, they, too, are tax deductible. Please send us an email or call Linda Myers at 479-788-7026 to receive more information about this type of gift.
