
Nate earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002. At Illinois he joined the basketball team as a walk-on for Coach Lon Kruger. He played his senior year under Coach Bill Self and then served his fifth year as a student assistant coach. Nate was a part of three Big Ten Championship teams and went to the Elite 8 in his senior year at Illinois. He was a four-year letter winner in men's basketball from 1998-2001. The former guard is the school's career leading scorer for walk-ons with 95 points. He played 72 career games for the Illini with four starts and scored 65 points his sophomore season where he averaged 9.9 minutes per game. In his junior and senior seasons, Mast was awarded the Illini's Kenny Battle Most Inspirational Award as voted by the players, and was a member of the Big Ten Academic All-Conference team in 2001. After graduating in 2002, Nate took a job as an intern at Peacock and Lewis Architects in West Palm Beach, Florida. He worked just under two years in Florida before attending graduate school at the University of Kansas. Nate was a graduate assistant on Coach Self's staff for the Jayhawks. While at KU, he was a part of three Big Twelve Championships, two Big Twelve Tournament Championships, and another trip to the Elite 8. Mast received his Master's of Architecture on May 20th, 2007. He accepted the assistant men’s basketball position at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith in early June and began working in July 2007. Nate is married to Ashley Mast from Champaign, Illinois. She has her Master’s of Social Work from the University of Kansas.
