Welcome to Psychology! The Department of Psychology at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith offers a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a psychology minor. The minimum requirements for the degree are 124 credits – At least 45 hours must be upper division (3000 or 4000 level) credits. The minor in psychology requires 18 hours of courses. The department’s focus is to provide applied knowledge in the science and profession of psychology with a commitment to prepare students to enter the workforce and/or to enter graduate school. The faculty is committed to honoring diversity, promoting human decency, engaging students in the classroom, community service, and research. The curriculum was designed to promote creativity, imagination, higher-order-thinking, cross-cultural knowledge, and ethical principles.

A student’s degree program requirements are those specified in the catalog in effect at the time of declaration of program major. For the degree plan you can visit the following link: http://www.uafortsmith.edu/Degrees/BA-Psychology?skin=current The department is committed to the Guaranteed 8-Semester Degree Completion Program (DCP) Pursuant to Act 1014 of 2005 http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/ftproot/acts/2005/public/act1014.pdf. Qualified first-time freshmen with a declared major may elect to participate in the guaranteed 8-semester degree completion program. Students must follow the degree plan and meet all requirements as outlined in the guaranteed 8-semester DCP contract. The contract and degree plan must be signed and filed with the advisor before the first day of classes for the student’s first term of attendance.

Welcome to Sociology! You’re about to take a fascinating journey into the world of cultures, social interaction, and social reality. Our courses allow you to use your sociological imagination, as in the words of C. Wright Mills, “to look beyond a limited understanding of things and people in the world, and allow for a broader vision of society”. Currently, the Department of Sociology at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith does not offer a degree in the discipline; however, you may take a variety of sociology courses to compliment your major as a requirement, personal interest, and to satisfy electives.

Currently, the department does not offer a degree in the field; however, students enroll in anthropology courses to fulfill degree requirements, satisfy electives, and for personal interest.
