General Information
The mission of the UA Fort Smith English/Rhetoric/Speech departments is to prepare the students to be effective communicators. We support general education and other disciplines through teaching writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills. The college encourages writing across the curriculum, and we provide our students with the communication skills needed to perform successfully in other classes.
Our goal is to produce students who can read analytically, objectively, and fairly, who can think clearly and logically, and who can write and speak with clarity, reason, and grace. Through their experiences in the department, we also hope they will develop a sense of social responsibility and community involvement where their use of language can influence and persuade.
