Part or Dappled Shade

Light Requirements:

Trees for part-dappled shade mean these trees tolerate some sun but only part of the day or the sunlight should be filtered not direct. Most of the time these trees will tolerate morning sun but should be protected from the hot afternoon sun. Not only do the trees need to be protected from the sun but also from the wind, especially in the summer. In some cases these trees will develop sunscald or scorch as a result of too much sun and end up doing poorly or even dying.

All the trees on this list with the exception of Dogwood and Japanese Maple will also grow in full sun but also tolerate some shade. Dogwood and Japanese Maple are best grown however as understory trees or in protected sites in Arkansas due to the potential for severe heat and wind of the summers especially in urban sites.
