A Career Interview is the process of interviewing someone in the career field of your interest. Contact the individual and explain that you are a college student interested in their occupation. Request an appointment to meet with the career professional to further discuss the career. Prepare a few questions in advance and consider listing characteristics of the career that you value. For example:

• Job title and responsibilities
• Educational and other requirements for the job
• Opportunities for advancement
• Likes and dislikes of the job
• Describe a typical work day

Write your answers and your overall impression of the career down to review at a later time. It is important that you be polite and thank the career professional for their time and assistance at the end of the interview. Within the next week, consider sending a “Thank You” note, this may be a contact when you are looking for employment!
