David Ewing is currently an adjunct percussion instructor at University of Arkansas at Fort Smith and conducts the university percussion ensemble. His past percussion ensemble performances include: Gainsborough - Tom Gauger, Canticle No 3 - Lou Harrison, Toccata Carlos Chavez, Common Ground Doug G. Stephens, Suite for Solo Drum Set and Percussion Ensemble David Mancini, American Phoenix (for tuba and four percussionists) Howard J. Buss, Fresken 70 for Percussion Quartet Bertold Hummel, Mudra Bob Becker, Five Aspects for Three Percussionists Bertold Hummel, Ceremonial Paul Creston, and Pulse Henry Cowell. He also is the percussion instructor for UAFS Summer Band Camp for middle school and junior high students.
David has been an active private instructor over the past twenty years teaching elementary, junior high, high school and college percussion students. Many of his students have been past All-State percussionists in both Arkansas and Oklahoma. David has been an adjunct instructor for the Fort Smith Public Schools teaching private and group lessons at Northside High School and Darby Junior High School.
David, having performed over 120 concerts during his 20-year career with the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra, is currently the principle percussionist with the orchestra. He has recorded with the Fort Smith Symphony on the Naxos recording label of William Grant Stills Afro-American Symphony. David has been a performing percussionist with many concert performances with the Fort Smith Chorale and the River Valley Community Band. Active as a church musician, David has performed over 1000 church services, with large church choirs over the past two decades. Other performance credits include various local musical performances: West Side Story Leonard Bernstein, Damn Yankees Richard Adler, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat Rice/Webber, Beauty and the Beast Alan Menken, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, and other musicals.
David is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University having studied under three band directors Robert Casey, Hal Cooper, and longtime band director Gene Witherspoon. David was a student of Phillip Parker, the current percussion instructor at ATU. David is currently completing his masters degree in music theory from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
