H1N1 PRECAUTIONS
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith is committed to the health and safety of students, faculty and staff. Due to an outbreak of H1N1 in other parts of the country, the University is stepping up efforts to disinfect commonly shared objects in campus facilities. However, there are steps you can take to protect yourself and others. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend the following actions:

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith is committed to the health and safety of students, faculty and staff. Due to an outbreak of H1N1 in other parts of the country, the University is stepping up efforts to disinfect commonly shared objects in campus facilities. However, there are steps you can take to protect yourself and others. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend the following actions:

Avoid close contact — Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick, too.
Stay home when you are sick — If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness. If you have a flu-like illness, the CDC recommends remaining home until 24 hours after resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
Cover your mouth and nose — Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Covering your mouth and nose prevents the spread of your illness to those around you.
Wash your hands — Washing your hands often helps protect you from germs.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth — Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
Practice other good health habits — Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

Additionally, the CDC recommends promptly seeking medical attention if you have a medical condition that puts you at increased risk of severe illness from flu, are concerned about your illness, or develop severe symptoms such as increased fever, shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, or rapid breathing.
